When you think of winter, you might imagine gathering around your table for a holiday meal with family or curling up under a blanket with a book. Now imagine winter without a home. When families become homeless, they lose more than apartments and furniture. They lose a place to gather with family, a place to do homework and a place to feel safe. The result is higher anxiety, decreased health and sagging academic performances.
Recently, a case manager from The Road Home was with a family who had been homeless for several months as the mother showed her children their new apartment for the first time. The case manager could hear *Ava, the second grader, shouting to her teenage siblings as she explored upstairs. “It’s a dream! It’s a dream! It’s a dream!”
This holiday season, you can help make the dream of a warm, safe home a reality for a child in our community. By giving a day, a week or more of your normal housing costs, you can change the life of a child. 100 Men of Dane County will match donations, potentially doubling the impact of your gift. Give now.
